Festival but emotive wedding - yes you can have both.....

Fun, relaxed and emotive wedding in the heart of Devon. Festival vibes all around for this Devon wedding film

When Louise and Mark told me they were having a vintage bus drive guests from the church to the party and that their friend was taking his guitar to sing some songs on the way and that they wanted me on the bus to film all the fun I knew this wedding was gonna be a good’un.

The same guitar playing and song singer friend then told me that when it got dark he would do some fire dancing. ching ching, Jackpot.

I was lucky enough to work with Anna & Mike from the exceptional Luna Weddings and I think we made a pretty good team. Especially when Anna and I were both cramming into corners of the bus to get the best wide shots.

This wedding had it all. Louise looked stunning in her vintage inspired knee length dress. Mark looked sharp with his freshly trimmed and groomed beard. The band (The Shrine) were rocking and the relaxed Double Locks venue was beautifully dressed by Blue Fizz Events.

But it’s not just about the party. As you’ll see from their highlights film below, it was a magical ceremony too at St James church, Teignmouth. Their nearest and dearest were hanging out with Mark, sinking a pint or two to calm the nerves at the White Ensign opposite the church before the ceremony.

When the dancing started, it never stopped. These guys, their friends and family knew how to party but don’t take my word for it, see for yourself by watching the wedding highlights I captured for them below

This one is special and one of my favourites.

And for a different spin on things, see below their highlights for a 60 second hip-hop version I did for Instagram. For updates and some of my more creative work follow me on Instagram here

Cathedral Wedding / Vineyard Wedding Devon

When I met Laura and Toby they told me that they were nervous about having a videographer at their wedding. I knew I had to keep my camera out of their faces and give them a wide berth to keep them relaxed and comfortable on their big day. And when I say big, I mean EPIC!

My style of filming weddings is natural, discrete and unobtrusive. I choose to film in this way so that my couples can relax and enjoy their day without feeling posed and awkward. I shoot how I personally would like to be captured. Real un-staged emotion is the key.

When I met Laura and Toby they told me that they were nervous about having a videographer at their wedding. I knew I had to keep my camera out of their faces and give them a wide berth to keep them relaxed and comfortable on their big day. And when I say big, I mean EPIC!

Wedding Ceremony at Exeter Cathedral

The ceremony was at the truly magnificent Exeter Cathedral with it’s stunning ceilings and gothic architecture. The acoustics were amazing which meant that when the choir sang (which was made up of their family members and conducted by Laura’s uncle) it gave me goose bumps.

Laura’s grandad who was a member of the clergy at the Cathedral read the ring exchange and vows.

In and amongst all of this grandeur were Laura and Toby who looked so relaxed and happy together. Me and the fantastic photographer Alex Toze were there capturing and documenting all of the magical moments.

Reception at Froginwell Vineyard

After the ceremony, a vintage red bus took the guests to Froginwell Vineyard on the outskirts of Exeter. It was my first time at the venue and hopefully not my last. Just inside the entrance of the barn was a beautifully restored traction engine that created a stunning backdrop for the reception space.

Sandwich fingers and mini scones and clotted cream were supplied and served by Astridges caterers as well as fizz and Devon Red Cider.

Below are their highlights - a short and sweet snapshot of their day. Get in touch to find out more about my wedding videography services

Spanish Barn, Torre Abbey Devon Wedding

The Spanish Barn is a Grade I listed building and ‘Ancient Scheduled Monument’. It has high beamed ceilings and parquet flooring. The grounds include The Palm House - a massive greenhouse with ponds, palms, cacti and colourful flowers - perfect for some truly beautiful wedding photos for Naomi & Oliver.

Like many of my bookings, Naomi contacted me about filming her wedding because she had seen one of my wedding highlight films on Facebook. A friend of a friend type thing, she went to primary school with the groom and saw him share the video.

She runs a dance school in London, The Garland Dance Academy and when she mentioned that her first dance was going to end on Dubstep, I just knew I had to get the booking.

Naomi and Oliver live in London with their cheeky son Wilf, but Naomi grew up in the pretty village of Stokeinteignhead, Devon and so they decided to host their wedding in the village of her childhood home.

Naomi & Olivers Wedding

The ceremony was at the picturesque church in the centre of Stokeinteignhead. Before the ceremony I met Oliver and his groomsmen in the pub down the road, The Church House Inn, where they were sipping on halves of Devon cider and greeting guests.

After the ceremony, Meg from Mimosa photography took them to Thatchers Rock to get some dramatic snaps of them with the sea and the rock in the background before heading on to Torre Abbey for the reception.

They had a nautical theme with anchor braces and bowties for the boys and gorgeous pale blue dresses for the girls. Naomi and her mum handmade the decorations in the Spanish barn and they had various outdoor lawn games including giant jenga, croquet and a tug of war rope.

Drinks were supplied by the super cool Beetle Juice who literally drove up and parked outside the Spanish Barn, popped the roof and started serving cocktails. Shame I was driving and didn’t get to try any!

But my favourite bit was taking them into the stunning tropical palm gardens of Torre Abbey. The Palm gardens is a massive greenhouse with ponds, palms, cacti and colourful flowers which was perfect for their couples shoot.

You can see all of this for yourself by looking through some stills from the wedding video I had the pleasure to film. Enjoy….

Devon Wedding - Seaside Church & stunning views evening

Last year, when an email dropped in my inbox via the contact form on my website from Danielle and Adam, we decided to meet at the Clipper cafe, Shaldon for a chat. I had no connection to these two, they were complete strangers but after the first 2 minutes, before we’d even ordered the cake, I knew we would get along.

Devon seaside church wedding

As a wedding professional, most of my work is through referrals: friends of friends, guests at previous weddings or old school friends that follow me on Facebook. So when random couples get in touch I’m always excited (and a little nervous) to meet them.

Danielle is a bubbly chatty beaut of a girl and Adam is funny and welcoming. We chatted about how Adams parents had a holiday home in Shaldon and that they both had been visiting Shaldon for many years as a couple and fell in love the place, so Shaldon was the obvious place for them to get married.

We discussed what they expected from wedding videography. They said that they liked my relaxed candid style, that they didn’t want to be staged or made to feel awkward. My dream couple really! I think it’s important to really get to know my couples so that I can shot and edit in a style that’s personal to them. So when I found out that Adam loves his trips to Ibiza and that they both loved beer pong and Jagerbombs, I knew I needed a party vibe for their wedding film.

The ceremony was at St Peters church, Shaldon which is right on the river beach at the end of Shaldon bridge. The reception at Teignmouth Golf Club which has the most AMAZING views of the valley of Teignmouth and across the river Teign to Shaldon. From the golf club, you could even see the church they were married.

Below are some stills from their film and at the bottom is a link to their party vibe, Ibiza inspired highlights.

Enjoy! And get in touch if you’re getting married and want a highly personal wedding film, just like theirs below…..

barons hill farm wedding venue

I had never been to Barons Hill farm before and I wasn’t disappointed. It is an incredibly beautiful rustic farm venue in the heart of the Devon countryside. It’s a 60 acre farm located only 12 minutes away from Totnes station. They have a fully restored agricultural barn which is a stunning setting for a wedding reception. I pinch myself every time I get to visit and ‘work’ at such stunning wedding venues.

Kirsty and toms Outdoor humanist wedding

When Kirsty and Tom chose to have their wedding at Barons Hill Farm, Devon that was the first good decision. When they then chose me as their wedding videographer. That was a great decision!

The humanist ceremony (MC’d by the fabulous Fan of FanFare ceremonies) was outdoors under a canopy of greenery. The guests were seated on straw bales (with blankets on top for comfort I might add) and New Daze, a gypo-hop duo from Paignton played Kirsty down the aisle as a Miss and then played her out of the aisle as a Mrs with her new hubby Tom while the hand dried flower confetti was chucked all over them.

The reception drinks were in the courtyard by the famous tractor and under a much needed marquee for shade (yes, it was one of those long and HOT summer days that we had plenty in Devon during June - August 2018) and the meal, speeches and dancing were held in the beautifully decorated barn.

Kirsty and Toms wedding

Kirsty, being a gin lover had collected many different bottles of gin for table numbers and filled the others with fairy lights and placed them all around the barn as decoration. Kirsty and her family did all of their own flowers too!  She did such a good job, I told her that she should consider going into wedding planning!

The delicious food was provided by The Dinner Service who looked after myself and the photographers Lucy James Photography very well, we managed to sit down with a stacked plate of food each - always well needed energy for us VOGS and TOGS during the wedding day.

Their first dance was a jolly one which kick started all of the dancing which carried on all night and Tom & Kirsty were even lifted up on peoples shoulders and paraded around.

What a cracking wedding. I would like more like this one please! That sunset was priceless and picture perfect.

See stills from their film below and their highlight film is at the bottom. Enjoy.

Devon Seaside Wedding Video

On the day of Jade and Jamie's wedding, the weather could not have been better. Devon's Berry Head Hotel, Brixham set high up on the cliffs with stunning sea views was a like being on a Greek island. 30 degrees, flat blue sea and the best sunset I've seen so far this wedding season.

jade and jamie’s Seaside Wedding

On the day of Jade and Jamie's wedding, the weather could not have been better. Devon's Berry Head Hotel, Brixham set high up on the cliffs with stunning sea views was a like being on a Greek island.  30 degrees, flat blue sea and the best sunset I've seen so far this wedding season.

I got to spend the day (and share a cider with after we'd clocked off) with a local Brixham photographer Toby Lidstone, he was so easy to work with hopefully we'll have the opportunity to work on another wedding again soon.  Next time, the cider and black is on me!  We both shoot in a documentary and un-obtursive style so complimented each other perfectly.  Check out his work here Toby Lidstone Photography.

I arrived early to film the bridal and groom preparations with Jade and Jamies daughter Chloe keeping us all entertained with her magic stick and little Ralph, their 1 year old son looking super cute in braces, bow tie and knee socks.

After the ceremony, the guests were served pink prosecco and the children icecreams.  Everyone hung out on the private terrace over looking the sea before moving into the walled garden of the hotel for group shots and throwing the confetti.

The partying started after the first dance and carried on late into the night with 4 generations from the families sharing the dance floor from Chloe to her great nan.

Below are some stills from their film and a bit further down is Jade and Jamie's short highlights wedding video.

Contact me here to discuss the wedding videos I make and if you'd like to have a chat with me about filming your future special day. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook to find out about wedding fayres I’ll be showcasing my wedding films at so that we can meet in person and chat all things weddings and wedding videography.

Enjoy

Stunning Country House Wedding - Reed Hall, Devon

Reed Hall, Exeter is a stunning grade 2 listed mansion in the grounds of Exeter University used for weddings and corporate events. Venetia and Jonny had an elegant winter wedding and I was delighted to be the wedding videographer.

Venetia & Jonny contacted me just over a week before their wedding and as you can see from their highlights vid below, I'm so glad that they did and that I was available.

About Reed Hall Wedding Venue, Exeter

It was a beautiful wedding at a venue on my doorstep that until then, I didn't even know existed. Reed Hall, Exeter is a stunning grade 2 listed mansion in the grounds of Exeter University used for weddings and corporate events. I love having the opportunity to visit all of the beautiful wedding venues Devon and the South West has to offer and Reed Hall is one of those. 300 acres of gardens with heritage trees and moss covered stone steps which felt a world away from the city centre which is actually only a stones throw away.

It was an elegant winter wedding which I was delighted to be a part of. In fact, I loved the images so much that the eagle eyed of you will notice that they are currently the backdrop for the home page on my website.

*PLEASE NOTE* The images below are stills from Venetia & Jonny's film therefore will never be as crisp as photography images.

They were an absolute dream to work for and their first dance was epic. Venetia, an accomplished ballet dancer, just couldn't resist a few spins and lifts and Jonny was only too happy to oblige. But see for yourselves, their highlight video is at the bottom of the stills below.

Deer Park, Honiton, Devon

Kerry & Ben’s winter wedding was at the stunning Deer Park, Devon. As you can see from the highlight vid and the stills below, the gardens are well maintained in winter and the inside is nice and cosy.  It's a proper English country grand house, just perfect for weddings.

Kerry & Ben’s winter wedding

Kerry and Ben were one of those couples that found me via google. We didn't know each other.  No one had recommended me to them.  So when I had a notification of contact from Kerry via my website I was pleasantly surprised.

They were from up North and holidayed in Shaldon, Devon (just across the river from where I live) so before booking me, we decided to meet and chat all things wedding over tea and cake in the Clipper Cafe

They had seen some of my videos and liked my natural style of filming.  Neither of them feel particularity comfortable in front of the camera so they wanted me to disappear into the background to enable them to relax and not feel at all awkward.

Their winter wedding was at the stunning Deer Park, Devon. As you can see from the highlight vid and the stills below, the gardens are well maintained in winter and the inside is nice and cosy.  It's a proper English country grand house, just perfect for weddings.

We had a touch of rain, but it did not dampen the spirits.  Kerry and Ben carried on regardless with the help of her bridesmaids carrying the umbrellas!

About Deer Park

Deer Park is a stunning, and award winning, wedding venue located in East Devon. You can take over the country house and gardens, have an indoor or outdoor ceremony and eat amazing food made from the produce in their own walled garden. Humber Barn, Devon - Wedding Extravaganza

Humber Barn was a lambing shed and is now a completely refurbished stunning wedding venue located in South Devon. I was invited to showcase my wedding videos at their wedding extravaganza!

About Humber Barn

Humber Barn is located in Bishopsteignton in South Devon, just a 30 minute drive from Exeter. This beautiful Devon wedding venue is close to the stunning south Devon coastline and popular beach locations like Shaldon and Dawlish, and just a short drive to the edge of Dartmoor National Park.

Humber Barn was originally a lambing shed but it’s been beautifully restored with weddings in mind. They can cater for as few as 2 guests, for more intimate weddings, or up to 250, for those who want all their friends and family to attend their special day. As it’s a working farm they use as much of their own produce as possible to create a wedding feast fit for a King and Queen. If additional produce is needed they focus on local suppliers to support the local community.

If you’re a country girl or boy at heart a barn wedding is something very special and Humber Barn is well worth considering.

Read about a Devon Farm Wedding at Humber Barn that I was privileged to be the wedding videographer at.

humber barn wedding extravaganza

Recently, I was fortunate enough to be asked to have a stall at Humber Barn's first wedding showcase to play some of my wedding videos.

I, and other handpicked local wedding suppliers, were set up inside the newly refurbished barn. We were showing off our stuff and chatting to couples as they arrived, while the kids rushed outside to play in the vintage fairground installed by The Prop Factory and burn off energy on the inflatables supplied by Mane Events.

After a couple of hours, (and cake from MaD Cakes) I set some of my wedding highlights to play on a loop and took my camera outside to film some of the fun.  Here's a little vid of how it went....
