Confused about the difference between wedding videography and content creation? You wouldn’t be the only one.

When the big day arrives, a dilemma most modern couples have is how to capture those little moments of their day, the moments they may miss, in a way that reflects them and their personalities. In order to do this, they’ll need to book either a wedding content creator or a wedding videographer….or maybe even both!

As a part of this glorious industry, wedding content creators and videographers aren’t in competition with each other, we are simply different. We can work alongside each other or separately but that all depends on what you want for your special day. So, what’s the difference?

wedding content creator - your wedding day bestie, BTS ninja and social media maestro

wedding videographer - the creator, director and producer of wedding films that tell the full story of your day

We both document your day but in different ways

A wedding content creator is all about the short-form footage and quick turn around! This allows you and your guests to be completely present on the day and still wake up to ALL the content, without missing any of the moments. They capture photo and video content, usually on an Iphone, and are quick to deliver, normally within 24 hours of your wedding day. The couple receives all of the unedited photo and video files, allowing them to start sharing their special day straight to their own social media accounts.

If you book a wedding content creator you get quick shareability, trendy charm and evergreen content you can rewatch over and over.

Meanwhile, a wedding videographer—a master of wedding cinematography—presents you with a cinematic experience: a wedding film that unfolds your love story with the depth and richness it deserves. This is where the sweeping shots, the tender glances, and the unspoken promises are woven into a feature film that lasts a lifetime. A meticulously crafted wedding film tells the story of your day in a truly creative way. All of the emotions and moments blended together using professional audio and visual equipment and expertly edited together. Wedding videographers expertly create a short film that you can treasure forever.

Differences in Services and Deliverables

Wedding Content Creators - Instantly Shareable

  • Shoot & Share: They're the behind the scenes ninjas capturing live-action shots, with a keen eye for the spontaneous. Wedding content creators specialise in following TikTok worthy trends that resonate with modern couples and delivering short videos that capture the overall atmosphere of your wedding day.

  • Social Savvy Deliverables: Platform-perfect content - vertical videos, candid iPhone photos, and tailored content like Reels and TikTok videos are the aim of a content creator.

  • Wedding day bestie: A content creator steps into the role of your best friend on your wedding day, capturing every precious moment so your friends and guests can fully enjoy the celebration. With a dedicated person to document all the heartfelt moments, it relieves the pressure and allows your guests to be fully present throughout the day.

Wedding Videographers – Crafters of Cinematic Films

  • Filmmaker's Flair: The wedding videographer is your storyteller, illuminating the feel of your day, your personalities and individual style. Wedding videography weaves a visual and audio narrative that showcases your connection and all the emotions of your day. Speeches and vows are captured using professional audio recorders so you can really hear the depth of peoples voices.

  • Ready to Watch Memories: Most wedding videographers will carefully create for you a highlights film between 5-10 mins long. Something you can sit down to watch with loved ones and all relive the rollercoaster of emotions of your wedding day. Picture watching on your 5/10/20 year anniversary and looking back in time to your special day and reminiscing over how much everyone involved in your day have grown and changed.

  • Total Professionalism: A friend might offer to snap and share, but there’s no substitute for the professionalism, quality audio and visual equipment and practiced help with posing and finding the best most flattering light that a dedicated wedding videographer brings.

Choosing What's Right for Your Wedding

Ensuring each section of your day is expertly documented may come down to choosing between a wedding content creator or a wedding videographer. As modern couples navigate this decision, it's essential to ponder over which will best reflect your story and how you wish to watch them after your day.

Know What You're Getting and When:

Most wedding videographers will share a small amount of snippets shortly after your big day and then the main film with have a 4-12 week wait. The time taken to receive your finished films will vary at different times of the year. If your wedding is at the start of the season you can expect a quick turnaround. However, towards the end of wedding season there can be a longer wait in the queue to even start.

Wedding content creators work swiftly, providing you with hundreds of photos and videos, often within a day or two, perfect for sharing your newlywed bliss with an online community eager for a glimpse into your special day.

Some videographers may be hesitant to hand over their unprocessed and unedited footage, while others may offer this service to their couples for an extra charge.

Harmonise Your Wedding Team:

  • Complement, Don't Replace: A wedding content creator is there to complement the work of your photographer and videographer, offering an additional layer of storytelling from a unique perspective focused on social media sharing.

  • Supplier Insights: Beyond capturing your love, content creators often provide supplier-focused materials—helping highlight the contributions of all those who contributed to your dream day.

Remember, while friends may offer to help capture your day, the expertise of a professional wedding content creator ensures a smooth blend of guest enjoyment and professional content creation. Your love story deserves to be told with finesse, captured through the eyes of someone who can seamlessly navigate being both an invisible observer and an integral part of your day.

Cost, Delivery, and Scope of Work

Wedding content creators will be cheaper as they tend to work only on the day of the wedding whereas a wedding videographers work continues after. With all the footage to sift through, audio to synch, chop, edit, colour grade the footage and tweak audio levels. I spend on average 25 hours in post production of each of my wedding films. A content creator will upload all files captured onto an online sharing platform shortly after your wedding, so you’ll have quick access to the files to then edit and share yourself. A wedding videographer will take additional time after your wedding to craft you a unique film. They take their time perfecting, tweaking, selecting and arranging the footage captured.

Wedding content creators charge on average £750 vs a wedding videographer will charge on average £2000.

Conclusion

Film, videos and photos will lock in your memories. You’ll remember how you felt on the day, but it goes so fast, so you’ll want an experienced wedding professional to capture those moments for you. So it’s worth investing a good proportion of your budget into capturing and documenting those memories for you. When looking at your wedding budget and considering which suppliers to book, I always give the advice of investing money into the things that last after your wedding. The cake gets eaten, the favours get left on the table, but your film and photos will last forever.

Are you a modern bride who wants to create reels and videos from a folder full of unedited photos and videos of your special day? Or would you prefer to rely on the expertise and creativity of an experienced wedding videographer to capture and create a film of your day?

In conclusion, the choice between a wedding content creator and a wedding videographer is ultimately the end product. They will both be fun and professional on the day of your wedding, but what do you want them to provide for you? What type of memories do you wish to have after your special day? An inbox full of files from a content creator, or a carefully crafted feature length wedding film from an experienced wedding videographer, or both?

Festival Weddings - Your Ultimate Planning Guide

Festival weddings are the music lovers choice. Read on to find out why you need a music loving wedding videographer to capture your wedding festival.

Calling all engaged live music and festival lovers! As a creative and passionate wedding filmmaker, I understand the magic of music festivals like Glastonbury and Boomtown, where unforgettable memories are made. I can't help noticing over recent years how many couples are throwing the idea of a traditional wedding out of the window and doing things their own way with a unique festival wedding. Imagine jumping around in a field with your besties, belting out your favourite tunes on the most special day of your life and having all of this captured and immortalised.

Imagine the raw real emotion. For modern couples who don’t fit the mould, the rule breakers and risk takers, a festival wedding ‘music video’ inspired wedding film could be just what you’re looking for.

Festival wedding films for music lovers

The Rising Trend of Festival Style Weddings

These festival themed weddings break away from the norm, offering an immersive experience that can extend beyond a single day. This trending wedding style is about creating a feeling. An atmosphere where fun, party and celebration are the priority. 2 or 3 day festival style weddings usually involve guests staying over, either at a festival wedding venue with lots of accommodation or even setting up a camping village. From bell tents to light installations, finding your perfect caterers to building an outdoor stage, the world is your osyter. I would recommend working with an experienced planner with experience in festival-style weddings to help your dry hire / DIY festival wedding run smoothly. I’ve been lucky enough to work with a handful of some of the best wedding planners out there and would gladly recommend somebody to you.

Why Modern Wedding Videography is Essential for a Festival Wedding

Wedding videography has evolved significantly over the years. Today, it's not just about filming the ceremony and reception; it's about capturing the feel and atmosphere of your whole day. Where every moment, from the relaxed and candid to the late-night dance-offs, can be expertly captured. Modern wedding videographers will use cinematic tricks to artistically frame and compose shots to leave you with a wedding film you can be proud of.

I cover 2/3 day wedding festivals where the fun and entertainment never stop! Live music and welcome drinks on the Friday, lounging around the pool on the Saturday morning before getting ready for the main event. From the anticipation of getting ready in the morning to the late night party moments, each part of your festival wedding day, when captured by a skilled wedding videographer, can be documented creatively, locking those memories in forever.

My Wedding Film Style

A wedding film is a time capsule that encapsulates the all the emotions, excitement and feelings of your wedding, allowing you to relive your day again and again. For festival themed weddings, a wedding film can make you look like rockstars in your own music video.

My keen eye for detail and the ability to stay one step ahead, noticing when something great is about to happen means that you will not miss a thing. My ‘off switch’ doesn’t exist during your wedding day. I’m always watching, listening, moving and looking out for the moments that haven’t even happened yet, ready to pounce. I capture those special moments as they naturally happen. I will capture the essence of your wedding festival, the laughter, the fun, the music, the dances, and the spontaneous moments, creating a wedding film that you will be proud of; a wedding film that brings back the pure feels when you watch it back.

If you’re looking for a wedding videographer that also loves music and will capture the dancing, fun and some of the live audio from your day to weave it into your wedding film, then I could be the videographer you’re looking for. Let’s chat about your festival wedding and most importantly, see if I’m available for your date below.

Festival Wedding Venues

A vital aspect of festival style weddings is the venue. From cliff edge sea view locations to rustic barns and grand manor houses, the venue sets the stage for your festival wedding. As your wedding videographer, I can capture the natural beauty of your location, decor, and the overall vibe, creating a visual backdrop for your wedding film. Imagine saying your wedding vows on the beach with sand between your toes? Imagine heading off to a nearby field set up with an outdoor stage or a big barn draped in lights for your wedding party.

Wedding Festival Food

Forget the formal 3-course sit down meal. How about a food truck serving banging street food? Some of the best weddings I’ve been to had simple but delicious no cutlery food. Think burritos, burgers, pizza, dirty fries, gyros, mac ‘n’ cheese - basically anything that can be eaten standing up. And for the sweet stuff, ice cream, sorbet, brownies and churros.

Food trucks can offer a budget friendly alternative to traditional wedding food which means you’ve got more in the pot to spend on bands! This simple and cost effective way to eat means less staff, and no washing up.

Festival wedding food and drink ideas

Festival-Inspired Outfits and Decor

Think colour, sequins and glitter. Festival weddings often feature relaxed, bohemian-inspired and colourful outfits, vibrant decor, and unique personal touches. From the bride's sequin shoes to the groom's custom-tailored suit, mirror balls to temporary tattoos, these details will make the wedding film truly reflective of the festival spirit.

Coloured festival flags, hanging streamers shimmering in the sun, ribbons blowing in the wind hanging off chairs. Think bold and bright colours in every direction. You can even specify that the dress code is bold and bright, or sequins and glitter.

Light installations are a fantastic way of getting those after dark ‘in-the-club’ party shots. I bring free standing and hand-held lights to make sure I can light up the darkest of spots to feature in your film. Lighting is so important and really helps create a music video feel to your wedding film.

Entertainment and Activities

Festival themed weddings are all about fun and entertainment. When I say wedding festival, I’m talking live music, lawn games, fire dancing, tug of war, welly wangging, inflatables, sequin outfits and glitter bars. Think about the fun things you and your guests can do to create amazing content for your epic wedding film.

Wrapping Up the Festival: The Wedding Film

A festival wedding is a vibrant, multi-coloured day, and capturing its essence requires a creative, storytelling approach. My style of modern wedding videography does just that. I will be your bestie with a camera, I will dance with you and capture all of the good stuff and create an amazing wedding film that not only tells the story of your day, but is something to be proud of. I will capture all the little details that you’ve thought about meticulously for months and I’ll blend it all together in a modern and creative way.

A weddng video that, when you watch it back, shows you having the time of your life. Lets chat about your festival wedding and most importantly, see if I’m available for your date!

Capture Weddings Love Story Sessions Explained

One way I can create you a truly unique wedding film is by capturing a Love Story Session with you. We can go on an adventure while you tell me all about each other and why you fell in love.

Love Story Sessions

I’m excited to introduce my new Love Story Sessions to my packages. The Love Story Session is an additional 2 hour shoot, on a different day before your wedding, where you tell me all about each other; how you met, what you love about each other, why they’re your favourite person. It’ll be really relaxed and easy going, all the while I’ll be recording what you’re saying so that I can pick out snippets of your love story to use in your feature film.

more than just wedding day videography

We’ll head out to capture some beautiful content at a lovely location that I can also weave in with your wedding day footage. I can film you hanging out and walking along the beach at sunrise or sunset, through the fields, going for a stomp on the moors or even jumping in a river for a wild swim or taking a ride in a boat. I can use my drone too to get some epic aerial shots. Absolutely flexible on location too, we’ll plan in advance and discuss the best place to meet. If it’s local to me, I know of a whole selection of amazing locations around the South West. If you live at the other side of the country, but are getting married closer to where I live, we could meet up when your visiting for a venue visit.

Similar to an engagement photography session, my video Love Story Session is also a perfect opportunity for you to get used to being filmed and directed by me. It gives us a chance, ahead of your wedding day, to get to know each other so that on the day itself I can easily slide into your wedding day, like a friend with a camera.

the sky’s the limit

If you’re having a destination wedding weekend either in the UK or abroad, this is the perfect way to capture some extra moments from your wedding weekend too. We can do the Love Story Session the day before your wedding when you’ll have heightened levels of excitement for the celebrations to unfold the next day. Got a pool at your venue? Let’s organise a pool party and have everyone diving in (yes, I have ways of shooting in the water!). Are you both sporty? Let’s organise a game of cricket or go for a sea swim together. I love to snowboard, so if you’re planning on getting married up a snowy moutain and have visions of shredding in your wedding film let’s make it happen! The options are vast and most importantly it’s another opportunity for me to capture your true personalities and passions on film and weave them into your wedding film too.

All of this extra footage means that I’ll be able to make a truly authentic and unique to you wedding film. A film about you both and your love story, rather than a film just about one day.

Questions?

Please note, this is not a stand-alone film. The footage we capture during the session will be used in your main wedding film.

Should you have a traditional handfasting wedding ceremony?

Handfasting is an ancient, symbolic ritual that is quickly becoming a modern wedding favourite. An experienced wedding videographer will be able to capture the ritual perfectly for you. It's a beautiful, meaningful, and deeply personal way to celebrate your union.

Handfasting

…The Ancient Wedding Tradition Reimagined for Modern Ceremonies

Handfasting is an ancient, symbolic ritual that is quickly becoming a modern wedding favourite. It's a beautiful, meaningful, and deeply personal way to celebrate your union, whether you're planning a traditional wedding or looking for something a bit more unique. Handfasting is a wedding tradition that transcends cultures and time, and it's one that I'm passionate about helping couples incorporate into their special day.

In essence, handfasting is a ritual where a couple's hands are tied together, symbolising their commitment and unity. It's a visual representation of two lives becoming one, and it's a powerful way to express your love and commitment to each other. If you're not familiar with this tradition, you might be wondering: what is handfasting, and where does it come from? Let's delve into the rich history of this beautiful ceremony.

Murphy and Sam’s beautiful beach wedding in Devon incorporated handfasting with a twist. Somebody (naming no names!) forgot the ribbons and so they used guests ties instead.

The History of Handfasting

Handfasting is a tradition that dates back thousands of years, across various cultures and continents. It's believed to have Celtic origins, used as a form of marriage contract in ancient times. The couple's hands were literally tied together, symbolizing their union and commitment. This is where the phrase "tying the knot" originally comes from!

In medieval times, handfasting was used as part of the wedding ceremony in many European countries. This tradition faded out of mainstream weddings with the rise of the church and formal marriage ceremonies, but it never completely disappeared. In fact, handfasting saw a revival in the 20th century, particularly within the neo-pagan and Wiccan communities.

Today, handfasting is embraced by couples of all backgrounds and beliefs. It's often incorporated into non-traditional weddings, but it can also add a unique and meaningful element to more traditional ceremonies.

Handfasting: An Ancient Tradition in Modern Weddings

Over the past few decades, there has been a growing trend towards personalizing weddings and making them a true reflection of the couple. This has led to a resurgence of the handfasting tradition in modern ceremonies. Today, handfasting is not just for pagans or history buffs; it's for anyone who wants to add a deeply symbolic and personal touch to their wedding day.

It’s a flexible ritual that can be tailored to suit your personal beliefs, values, and tastes. Whether you want to honour your Celtic heritage, celebrate your love for medieval history, or simply do something a bit different, handfasting can be a beautiful and meaningful addition to your wedding ceremony.

What's more, it’s a highly visual and tactile ritual. This makes it perfect for modern weddings, where couples are increasingly looking for unique and memorable experiences. The act of tying the knot can be a powerful, emotional moment that's sure to leave a lasting impression on everyone present.

The Symbolism of Handfasting

Handfasting is rich in symbolism. The act of tying the knot represents the binding together of two lives. It's a visual and physical manifestation of your commitment and unity. The cord or ribbon used in the ceremony can also carry symbolic meaning. Different colours can represent different qualities or aspirations for your marriage, such as love, trust, wisdom, and strength.

In some traditions, the couple's hands are tied with a single loop, symbolizing their unity and shared destiny. In others, multiple loops are used, representing the many aspects of their relationship and their individual and shared journeys. The cord or ribbon can be kept as a memento of the ceremony, a tangible reminder of your vows and commitment.

The Role of Handfasting in Non-Traditional Weddings

Non-traditional weddings are all about personalization and authenticity. They're about breaking free from the confines of tradition and creating a ceremony that truly reflects you as a couple. Handfasting fits perfectly into this ethos. It's a flexible and adaptable ritual that can be customized to suit your beliefs, values, and tastes.

Whether you're planning a pagan wedding, a medieval-themed ceremony, or just want to do something a bit different, handfasting can add a unique and meaningful touch. You can choose the type of cord or ribbon, the colour, the knots, and even the words spoken during the ceremony.

It can also be a wonderful way to involve family and friends in your ceremony. Each person could tie a knot or make a blessing, creating a deeply personal and communal experience.

How to Incorporate Handfasting into Your Modern Wedding

Incorporating handfasting into your modern wedding can be as simple or elaborate as you like. The basic ritual involves the couple's hands being tied together with a cord or ribbon while a blessing or vows are spoken. But beyond this, there's plenty of scope for personalization.

You could choose a cord or ribbon in your wedding colours, or select different colours to represent different qualities or aspirations for your marriage. You could write your own vows to be spoken during the handfasting, or choose a traditional blessing. You could even incorporate elements from your cultural or spiritual traditions.

If you're planning a non-traditional wedding, handfasting can be a central part of your ceremony. But even if you're having a more conventional wedding, handfasting can be a meaningful addition. It could take place after the exchange of rings, as a visual and symbolic affirmation of your vows.

Handfasting Rituals and Their Meanings

The specific rituals and words used in a handfasting ceremony can vary greatly, depending on your personal beliefs, cultural background, and preferences. But regardless of the specifics, the underlying sentiment is always the same: a commitment to love, honour, and support each other.

The knots tied can also carry symbolic meaning. A single knot might represent unity and shared destiny, while multiple knots might symbolise the many aspects of the couple's relationship.

The words spoken can be a traditional blessing, personalised vows, or a combination of both. They can speak to the couple's hopes and dreams for their marriage, their commitment to each other, and the qualities they bring to their union.

Capturing the Moment: Wedding Videography

Handfasting is a deeply personal and emotional ritual. It's a moment of commitment and unity, a visual and physical symbol of your bond. Capturing this moment on film can be a wonderful way to preserve the memory and share it with others.

As a wedding videographer, I specialise in capturing these kinds of intimate moments. I understand the importance of telling your story in a way that's authentic and true to you. Whether you're planning a traditional wedding or a non-traditional ceremony, I can help you capture the magic and emotion of your handfasting.

The Beauty of Handfasting in Wedding Films

Handfasting is a visually stunning ritual. It's a moment of connection and commitment, a symbol of your bond. This makes it a wonderful addition to any wedding film.

As a wedding videographer, I love capturing the beauty and emotion of handfasting ceremonies. The act of tying the knot, the exchange of vows or blessings, the reactions of the couple and their guests - these are all moments that can add depth and emotion to your wedding film.

Whether you're planning a traditional wedding ceremony or a non-traditional one, including handfasting in your wedding film can add that extra special unique moment. It's sure to be cherished for years to come.

Planning an Outdoor Wedding

Devon is the perfect location for an outdoor wedding ceremony and if you're looking for something truly unique, Hayne Devon offers something special. Trust an experienced wedding videographer to capture your outdoor wedding for you.

tips for an outdoor wedding

How to Have a Magical Outdoor Wedding Ceremony

Imagine exchanging your vows surrounded by lush nature, the sun shining down on you and your guests, and a light breeze blowing through the air. It’s easy to see why outdoor weddings are becoming increasingly popular. With so many outdoor venues to choose from, you can create the perfect atmosphere for your special day and hear birds tweeting while you exchange your vows. But how easy is it to have an outdoor ceremony? With careful planning, you can create a truly memorable experience that your guests won’t soon forget. From selecting the right venue to incorporating meaningful decorations, there are lots of ways to make your outdoor wedding ceremony a magical one. Keep reading to learn more about how to incorporate the outdoors into your wedding day.

Benefits of Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies

Outdoor wedding ceremonies offer a unique experience that traditional indoor ceremonies can’t match. For one, you’ll have more freedom to create the perfect atmosphere for your special day, no boring hymns, no dark and cold churches. Instead, you can be surrounded by lush greens and colourful unpicked flowers. You can enjoy the natural light maybe at dawn or dusk and breathe in the fresh air.

Outdoor weddings tend to be more cost-effective than indoor weddings, as you won’t have to rent a large venue, pay the church those made-up music licensing fees or have a minister tell your videographer / photographer that they can only stand at the back for the whole service! (Can you tell I'm a little biased? I should say that most churches and their people are lovely and welcoming, but I've had a few bad experiences that sadly stick to the front of my mind).

Planning an outdoor wedding

The first step in planning a magical outdoor wedding ceremony is selecting the right venue. You’ll want to find a venue that fits your vision and accommodates all of your guests and their needs. Is accessibility an issue for some? Is it well lit? Will there be enough parking?

Consider looking for a venue that has plenty of space and offers a variety of settings for all weather conditions. You’ll also want to make sure that the venue has the necessary amenities, such as toilets and power.

Celebrant or Friend or Family Member?

If you're looking for an alternative wedding ceremony, have you considered having a friend or family member as your celebrant? I've seen it done many times and it's always such a beautiful and personal touch. There's something special about having someone you love take the lead and share your story with your guests that makes the whole experience so much more meaningful. And let's be honest, who wouldn't want their loved ones doing a lot of the talking on their big day? So, if you're looking to make your wedding ceremony truly unique, consider this alternative option.

Handfasting and using Coloured Sand in your wedding ceremony

If you're looking to add a unique touch to your wedding, why not consider a handfasting ceremony? This non-traditional Pagan ritual is a beautiful way to symbolize the binding of two souls in love. Imagine exchanging vows in an intimate outdoor ceremony as you and your partner have your hands tightly bound together with a ribbon or cord. It's a perfect way to honour your commitment to each other in a way that's both meaningful and unconventional. With handfasting at weddings, you can quite literally tie the knot and create memories that will last a lifetime.

You could also consider pouring layers of coloured sand into a glass bottle. You, your partner and any children you may have or from previous relationships, can all pour layers of different coloured sand into a glass bottle to symbolise the different personalities and the coming together of your new household. Not only is it a beautiful and symbolic addition to your special day, but it also creates a tangible keepsake that you can cherish forever. Imagine watching the sand layers settle, representing the merging of two lives into one, imagine how it can unite blended families. It's a perfect way to add a personal touch to your wedding celebration and create a unique memento that you will treasure for years to come.

Incorporating Meaningful Decorations

Once you’ve settled on the perfect venue and incorporated some unique elements, it’s time to start thinking about decorations. You want to make sure that the decorations you choose reflect your vision for the day. When it comes to outdoor wedding ceremonies, there are lots of ways to add meaningful decorations. Consider incorporating elements like floral arrangements, lanterns, and string lights to add a romantic touch. You can also opt for more personal touches, such as handmade signs or flags. You can also think outside the box and incorporate special elements like a bridge or an archway. Incorporating personal touches, such as photos of you and your partner or a meaningful poem.

Preparing for the weather

When it comes to an outdoor wedding, you’ll need to make sure that you’re prepared for any weather conditions. Make sure that you have a backup plan in case of rain or extreme heat. You’ll also want to make sure that you have some shelter options, such as tents or umbrellas, in case of inclement weather. Additionally, you’ll want to make sure that you have enough fans, heaters or blankets to keep your guests comfortable.

Tips for Choosing the Right Vendors

When it comes to planning your outdoor wedding, you’ll want to make sure that you’re working with the right vendors. You’ll want to make sure that you’re working with vendors who are experienced in outdoor weddings and understand your vision. Additionally, you’ll want to make sure that you’re working with vendors who are willing to accommodate any special requests you might have.

Ideas for Outdoor Wedding Entertainment

Once you’ve taken care of the basics, it’s time to start thinking about entertainment. You’ll want to make sure that you have entertainment options that will keep your guests entertained throughout the ceremony. Consider incorporating elements like live music or a photo booth to keep your guests entertained. Additionally, you can opt for more interactive entertainment choices, such as lawn games or a dance floor.

Tips for Creating a Stress-Free Outdoor Ceremony

When it comes to planning an outdoor wedding ceremony, it’s important to make sure that you’re taking steps to reduce stress. Make sure that you have a detailed plan of the day’s events and that you’re delegating tasks to trusted friends and family. Additionally, you’ll want to make sure that you’re giving yourself plenty of time to plan and prepare for the day. Finally, you’ll want to make sure that you’re taking some time for yourself and your partner to relax and enjoy the day.

Capture your outdoor ceremony with an experienced wedding videographer

Having a wedding video allows you to share your day with family and friends who were not able to attend. It’s also a great way to preserve and lock in those memories of the day and look back on them in the future. Imagine watching it back on your 1st and 10-year anniversaries.

When looking for a wedding videographer, it’s important to do your research. You should look at online reviews and ask for recommendations from friends and family. You should also meet (or virtually meet) with the videographer before booking them to make sure they are the right fit for you.

Modern Wedding Films Are Increasing In Popularity

I have witnessed the evolution of wedding films over the years. The traditional wedding videos of the past, your uncle Bob with a camcorder, have given way to modern wedding films that capture the true vibes of a wedding day and the personalities of the couple. So why are modern wedding films quickly becoming the new normal?

Lights! Camera! Vows! Why Modern Wedding Films Are Increasing In Popularity

As a professional wedding videographer, I have witnessed the evolution of wedding films over the years. The traditional wedding videos of the past, your uncle Bob with a camcorder, have given way to modern wedding films that capture the true vibes of a wedding day and the personalities of the couple. Today, I will explore why modern wedding films are quickly becoming the new normal for the stylish modern couple and why they are the perfect way to capture your special day and lock in those memories.

Introduction to Modern Wedding Films

First, let's define what we mean by modern wedding films. These are cinematic, beautifully shot films that capture the emotions, energy, and beauty of a wedding day. They go beyond the traditional wedding video, which often consisted of a single camera recording the ceremony and reception in a straightforward manner.

Modern wedding films, on the other hand, are carefully crafted to tell the story of your wedding day. They are shot using multiple cameras, often with a team of cinematographers, and are edited to create a cinematic experience that takes you back to the day of your wedding.

Going Beyond the Traditional Wedding Film

As wedding videography continues to evolve, we are seeing a shift towards more creative and cinematic approaches. Couples are looking for something that goes beyond the traditional wedding video, that doesn't just rely on lots of slow motion and captures the essence of their wedding day in a way that can be fun and interesting. This shift towards modern wedding films is driven by the expectation of couples getting married who want unique and personalised films. Their wedding day is a reflection of them and their personality. All of the little details are perfectly curated to show who they are and their interests. Wedding videographers need to be progressive and not just sit on a formula for wedding films that follows the same patterns where all of their films look the same. We are likely to see even more innovation and creativity in the years to come.

Modern Wedding Videography

Benefits of Modern Wedding Films

One of the biggest benefits of modern wedding films is their ability to capture the emotions and energy of a wedding day. Unlike traditional wedding videos, which can feel static and one-dimensional, modern wedding films are dynamic and engaging, drawing the viewer in and making them feel like they are a part of the action. Imagine your wedding film looking like a music video, cool af right?

Another benefit of modern wedding films is their cinematic quality. These films are shot on professional cameras and expertly edited to create a cinematic experience that is like a movie.

The Evolution of Wedding Videography

Wedding videography has come a long way in the last few decades. In the past, wedding videos were often shot using bulky, analogue equipment that was difficult to manoeuvre and operate. This made it challenging to capture the energy and emotion of a wedding day and resulted in videos that were often dull and uninspiring.

Modern wedding filmmakers use small handheld cameras so that they can get right in among all of the action. Dancing with you on the dancefloor and being your hype team in the morning.

How Modern Wedding Films Capture the Essence of a Wedding Day

Modern wedding films are all about capturing the essence of a wedding day. They do this by focusing on the emotions, energy, good times and fun of the day, and by telling the story of the couple's love and commitment to each other. This is achieved through a combination of careful planning, skilful cinematography, and artful expert editing. The resulting film is a unique and emotional representation of the couple's wedding day, one that they will treasure for years to come.

The Difference Between Traditional Wedding Videos and Modern Wedding Films

The difference between traditional wedding videos and modern wedding films is like night and day. Traditional wedding videos are often shot using a single camera and are edited in a linear manner, resulting in a video that is often dull and uninspired.

Modern wedding films, on the other hand, are shot using multiple cameras and are edited in a cinematic style that creates a beautiful and engaging film. They are carefully crafted to tell the story of the wedding day and are designed to be both emotional and memorable.

Examples of Modern Wedding Films

There are countless examples of modern wedding films available online, each one showcasing the beauty and emotion of a wedding day in a unique and memorable way. Some of the best examples can be found on popular video-sharing sites like Vimeo and YouTube, where talented videographers from around the world share their work. See below to see some of my own modern wedding films

Conclusion: Why Modern Wedding Films are Becoming the New Normal

In conclusion, modern wedding films are quickly becoming the new normal in wedding videography. Skilful wedding videographers will capture the emotions, energy, and beauty of a wedding day in a cinematic and engaging way. Whether you are looking for a short and sweet highlight reel or a longer, more cinematic feature film, modern wedding films offer a level of customisation and creativity that is unmatched by traditional wedding videos. So, if you are getting married soon, consider hiring a talented videographer to capture your special day in a way that you will cherish for years to come.

We wanted to showcase a modern style. Much consideration went into working with local, ethical, small businesses and showcasing the incredible talent of those in the south west.

The images used in this article are featured in the Devon Issue 54 of Wed Magazine. Concept and styling by the lovely Stacey from Glas Events - here’s what she had to say about the intention of the shoot:

”We wanted to showcase a modern style that complements the Devon countryside while drawing inspiration from the contemporary industrial aesthetic of the surrounding luxury accommodation and the history of the farm. Much consideration went into working with local, ethical, small businesses and showcasing the incredible talent of those in the south west.”

Pillar candles in glass lanterns line the aisle to an arbour, dressed in dainty white blooms, foliage and billowing drapes, that frames the scenic countryside beyond. The far-reaching views and natural textures inside the tipis provide a timeless canvas for the contemporary aesthetic, where striking black accents, which are woven throughout the decor, are softened with a soothing palette of off whites, oatmeal and oyster. Every element of the design, from the stationary to the cake, carries the clean lines and bold use of colour.

Getting married is one of the most important days of your life, and you want to make sure that every moment is captured perfectly. Hiring a wedding videographer is the best way to make sure that your wedding day is preserved forever.

In this article, we'll explore what makes a great wedding videographer, the benefits of hiring one, why wedding films are so important, examples of great wedding films in Devon, what to look for in a wedding videographer, tips for finding the perfect wedding videographer, popular wedding videography styles, tips for making the most of your wedding video, and questions to ask a wedding videographer.

Festival inspired wedding videography for music lovers

What makes a great wedding videographer?

A great wedding videographer will have a passion for storytelling and be able to capture the emotion of the day as well as the beauty of the setting and the most important moments and beautiful details. A good videographer will also be a master of their craft and have the technical expertise to produce stunning videos. They should be able to work with any kind of camera (from professional cameras to phones, drones and GoPros) and be able to carefully edit footage to perfection.

The best wedding videographers will also be creative and have an eye for detail. They should be able to capture the unique atmosphere of your wedding day, as well as the individual personalities of the bride and groom and the guests. A great videographer will also be able to capture the small moments between people, as well as the big moments of the day.

A great wedding videographer needs to be reliable and professional. They should have lots of experience shooting weddings and will be able to help with the planning process and provide advice and suggestions. They should also be able to work within your budget and help you create the perfect wedding film with no hidden extras.

Benefits of hiring a wedding videographer

Hiring a wedding videographer is one of the best investments you can make for your wedding day. Not only will it capture all of the special moments of the day, but it will also be a lasting memory that you can treasure for a lifetime.

A wedding video is a great way to remember your wedding day, as it captures all the emotions and moments that you may have missed. It will also allow you to relive the day and share it with family and friends who were not able to attend. You can bring your furry friends too! Yes, dogs can come to your wedding. Either ask a family member to babysit or hire a dog nanny (ask me about my recommendations for lovely dog sitters I've had the pleasure to work with)

Why wedding films are so important

Wedding films are important because they capture the emotion and beauty of the day in a way that photos cannot. They also allow you to relive the day as if it was happening again. Every laugh, giggle and wiggle on the dance floor and every hug, squeeze and tear that's wiped away from cheeks.

Having a wedding video also allows you to share the day with family and friends who were not able to attend. It is also a great way to preserve the memories of the day and look back on them in the future.

Examples of some of my wonderful Devon wedding films

I feel so privileged to live in Devon. It has every beautiful location you could possibly think of for different parts of your wedding day. Beaches, coastlines and cliff tops. Woodlands, forests and green fields. Moorlands, waterfalls and rivers. Country house estates, Rustic barns, and vineyards. There are many examples of great wedding films in Devon.

One example is the elopement film of Hannah & Ashleigh. Their film captures all of the special details of their day - their cake, flowers and their outfits, it shows off the beautiful Brickhouse Vineyard and is packed full of emotive moments. The venue is stunning, the flowers were in colourful bloom and the couple’s love for each other really shines through in their film.

Beautiful Devon vineyard wedding elopement videography

The wedding film of Cristina and Iura captures the beauty of the North Devon coastline with the most impressive outdoor ceremony location quite literally overlooking the sea at the stunning Sandy Cove Wedding Venue. I spent all day with them from morning preparations in the hotel, through to a private shoot on a near by beach in the most gorgeous early evening light.

Coastal cliff top wedding venue in Devon with near by beach. Perfect for intimate a weddings and elopements

The wedding film of Liv & Rory is a great example of a modern barn wedding you can have in Devon. Their short preview shows off the spring blossoms in the walled garden and the epic dinning room in the main barn.

What to look for in a wedding videographer

When looking for a wedding videographer in Devon, you want to make sure that they are experienced and reliable. They will have a certain style that you like, so trust them to do their thing and let them work their magic. the best thing you can say to a wedding videographer is "I trust you, you have full creative control"

It’s also important to make sure that the videographer has a good eye for detail, you do not want them to miss a thing. They should be able to capture the small moments between people, a look, a hug, a tear, as well as the big moments of the day.

Tips for finding the perfect wedding filmmaker

When looking for a wedding videographer in Devon, it’s important to do your research. You should look at online reviews and ask for recommendations from friends and family. You should also look at the videographer’s portfolio to get an idea of their style and the kind of videos they produce.

It’s also important to virtually with the videographer before booking them. This will give you an opportunity to get to know them and see if they are the right fit for you.

When meeting with potential wedding videographers, make sure to ask them questions about their experience and their approach to filming weddings. You should also ask them about their editing process, how long it might take to receive your finished films and what kind of equipment they use.

Relaxed, stylish, music filled wedding films

Popular wedding videography styles in Devon

The most popular wedding videography styles in Devon are documentary, cinematic, and traditional. Documentary style wedding videos focus on storytelling and capturing the emotion of the day. Cinematic style videos are more creative and often have a dreamy quality to them. Traditional style videos are more classic and focus on the details of the day.

No matter what style you choose, it’s important to make sure that the videographer understands your vision and is able to capture it in your film.

Tips for making the most of your wedding video

Making the most of your wedding video starts with choosing the right videographer. Make sure to do your research and find someone who is experienced and understands your vision.

Once you’ve chosen your videographer, it’s important to plan ahead. Make sure to provide the videographer with a timeline of the day. You should also make sure to provide the videographer with a list of the key people and moments that you want them to capture.

Questions to ask a wedding videographer

When meeting with potential wedding videographers, make sure to ask them questions about their experience and their approach to filming weddings. You should also ask them about the equipment they use, their editing process, and their turnaround time. It's very important to clarify the cost and what is included in the package.

It’s also important to ask them about their style and what they can do to make your video unique.

5 Reasons you need an EXPERIENCED Wedding Videographer

Why you need an experienced wedding filmmaker

Your wedding day will go so fast. An experienced wedding videographer will capture everything so that you do not miss a thing! Can you afford NOT to have a wedding videographer? Trust me when I say that you’ll be so grateful that you can watch your wedding film on your 1 year anniversary and for many more years to come

Why you need an experienced wedding videographer

95% of newlyweds that didn’t get their wedding filmed regret it after the event.  You’ve planned for your day months and months in advance and you only have one chance to get it filmed. But not all videographers are the same. A discounted video package can be tempting, but is it discounted due to lack of experience?

1. an experienced wedding videographer captures people at their most natural

Imagine watching your wedding film on your 1 year anniversary and showing newer members of your family. If you have children, imagine showing your children and your children’s children. Imagine looking back and remembering how much the little people have grown and changed since your wedding, imagine the magic of dancing with grandparents and seeing and hearing them laugh along with you. Future generations of your family can watch it. Imagine your grand children watching their great granddad dancing and singing at your wedding. Film and video capture movement, sound and emotions in the best way. Imagine cringing over the fashions in 10 years. We thought we looked so cool.

An experienced and talented wedding videographer will capture moments and people at their most natural.  I landed my first paid job as a wedding videographer in 2016 and since then have captured over one hundred beautiful weddings, each unique and individual. I’ve gained experience from them all and stored them away in my memory book of tricks which I refer to at each wedding and use to create an everlasting memory of your most special day.

2. It goes so fast

Time flies when you’re having fun. Before you know it, the band will be playing their last song and you’ll be hugging slightly wobbly people goodbye before they jump into taxis at the end of your wedding night.

Getting your wedding filmed means that you will not miss a thing and certainly never forget it. Wedding videography locks in memories and moments for ever. Make sure that you do not miss a thing, get in touch now to check my availability.

3. An experienced wedding videographer expects the unexpected

A quality wedding videographer with tons of wedding experience will be able to read situations and be prepared to expect the unexpected.  They will have top of the range kit and know how to use it.  The ONLY way to get good at filming weddings is to film lots of weddings.

I admit that I made mistakes on the first few, and I soon realised the limitations of my min-range cameras and lenses.  (Which is why I filmed my first 3 weddings for free for my friends!)  I’ve upgraded to professional quality cameras that can shoot in 4k which are even good enough to take stills from film.

In fact, all of the images on my website and this blog come form stills from the films I have made.

Dartington Hall, Devon

Dartington Hall, Devon

4. Find a style you like

There are many people providing wedding films and each film maker will develop their own style over time. I would describe my style as natural and documentary shot in a cinematic style focusing on real un-staged emotions. I try not to pose too much, I believe that most people stiffen and change when they realise that the camera is on them and so I prefer to shoot incognito, to capture real moments from your wedding.

Having said that, I do like to spend some time with my couples capturing some moments of just them. For this part of the day I find beautiful and interesting scenes to place you in around your venue. I look for greenery, brick walls, graffiti, interesting architecture, simplicity and busy backgrounds - anything that I think fits your style, vibe and personalities. For your couples shoot, I mostly say daft things to get you smiling and laughing for real, those relaxed moments of real laughter are gold dust for my films and I’ll use those clips every time!

I also ensure that my wedding films are as unique as the couple on their wedding day. From barn weddings to WWE themed weddings, outdoor beach to elegant manor house weddings, pagan hand fastings to traditional church weddings - each video captures the essence of the couple.

Book a call with me now to chat more about how I can capture your wedding in a fun and relaxed way.

5. Be cautious of wedding photographers who offer discounted wedding film packages.

Wedding videographers usually charge more than photographers for many reasons; more equipment (audio, stabilisers, lighting) and the extra time it takes to edit and create the finished product (I would guess 3 or 4 times more!).  Some wedding photographers have seen the rise in demand for wedding videos and want a piece of it assuming that all they have to do is hit the record button instead of the shutter button.

It is not that simple.  Wedding videography is a skill that takes years of honing skills and shooting many weddings.   There a very few photographers will be able to pull it off and deliver a video product at the same level as their photos.  Be careful not to be fooled by a slick, stylish looking website with lovely photos and expect the same from their cheap video package. They’re basically playing the business game, are excellent sales, seeing an opportunity to increase their income and cashing in on a captive market.

I know of a few amazing award winning wedding photographers who now offer video alongside their photo work, but their video work is no where near up to the same level of quality as their photos and quite often just a few mins musical highlights film. with no audio.

Let’s face it, very few of us have a bottomless pot of money, so choose how you spend your wedding budget wisely. Do you really need those personalised dressing gowns, slippers and champagne flutes? Or would you rather allocate that cash on a high quality beautiful film of your day that captures all of the mixed emotions of your celebration?

Be careful, don’t risk it! If you are considering booking one person for both photo and video, ask to see more than a couple of examples of their work and how many weddings they’ve ‘filmed’ to date.

5 reason you need me to capture your wedding…

…Well, if you’ve got this far

  1. I’m super friendly and can slot in easily into your day. See some of my reviews here (mostly copied from Google reviews, so you know that they’re genuine)

  2. I live in Devon, so I know the surrounding areas well. But I also have a converted van that I can sleep in should I need to travel further afield and need an overnight stay. I regularly film weddings in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. I’ve also travelled to the New Forest, Buckinghamshire, Nottingham and even Santorini for weddings. I love exploring new places and would love to be your wedding videographer wherever your wedding is.

  3. I’m super experienced shooting real weddings with over one hundred weddings captured. So you’re safe in my hands, I will expertly document your wedding for you and create an everlasting memory of your wedding day in a fun and relaxed way.

  4. I’ve also been asked to shoot many wedding fashion shoots. Super stylish and modern wedding styling inspiration to give you ideas about colours and styling for your own wedding. I’m used to working with model couples and use the same skills to stylistically capture authentic moments with my real couples.

  5. I’m a recommended supplier at Rock My Wedding, the UK’s biggest and most stylish wedding planning blog. I’ve been honoured to be on their faves list for 4 years in a row. You can see my RMW profile here.

So if you’re looking for inspiration and wrestling themed WWE wedding ideas, look no further!

Their wrestling themed wedding started out with their invitations. The WWE wedding invitations were on lanyards and styled like entry passes for a WWE event. They had life sized cardboard cutouts of wrestling superstars, action figures everywhere, branded stickers and temporary tattoos of their Wedding Mania logo.

Their WWE wedding cake sat in its own ‘Wedding Mania’ ring (yes, they had their own branding) with wrestling cake toppers. There was a wrestling style ring entrance for the bridal party when they went for their wedding breakfast.

Not only that but there was also a live wrestling show and wrestling props and masks for their photo booth. Even the waiting and bar staff at the venue dressed in black and white striped referee shirts printed with their ‘Wedding Mania’ logo.

Non-Traditional Wedding Film - WWE wedding video

How Do I Film Alternative and Non-Traditional Weddings?

My style of filming weddings doesn’t really change for alternative weddings, but they are more fun to capture for sure.

I still look out for real moments of hugs, laughter and happy tears - those moments of realness are still my favourite things to capture and use in my wedding films. I often tell my couples that I’m not making a perfume advert, I’m not there to stage things and expect you to pose on order, I want you to be relaxed and giggle the whole way through our couples shoot.

Let’s Talk Cake

The WWE wedding cake was sat in its own mini wrestling ring decorated with the Wedding Mania logo. The wrestling wedding cake toppers consisted of hand crafted mini figures of themselves - Dave on all fours and Charlotte about to smash a chair over him!

Non-Traditional Wrestling Wedding But With Some Traditions

Of course they still did the usual wedding things, Charlotte being walked down the aisle by her dad, confetti walk, first dance, the traditional speeches (with the addition of a Sister of the Bride speech and an extra Best Man/Men) - although the wedding party entrance was far from traditional, they all were announced in ‘wrestler entering the ring’ style, to music and choreographed moves.

Wedding Films For the Party Lovers

I LOVE a good party and I guess that comes across in my wedding films because I seem to attract couples that like to party too. The evening party, be it with a live band or DJ, has to be my favourite part of the day. It’s when all the formalities are over and everyone gets loosey goosey on the dance floor. I too jump on and get my groove on!

Myths about wedding videos explained

There are quite a few myths about wedding videos based on preconceptions people have about them. Let me explain a few things about modern wedding films and how much better they are now compared to the ones your parents might have had.

I was getting my nails done the other day by my friend Jade at The Beauty Base and as small business owners, we often talk shop about our businesses and bounce ideas off each other. She said that I should somehow tell people what I do and how I’m different to the conventional or old fashioned wedding film maker that some people imagine. After speaking to her I realised that there were quite a few myths about wedding videos based on preconceptions people have about them.

She explained that until she met me, (we were next to each other at a wedding fair and I was showing some of my past films) she had no idea how much wedding films had evolved. Because I’m involved in the wedding film industry, I’m regularly exposed to all of the different style of films available and I forget that newly engaged couples most probably aren’t!

Goodbye to the days of Uncle Bob and his big camcorder filming from the back of the church! Hello fantastic, stylistic wedding films to be proud of.

Canonteign Falls, Devon

Canonteign Falls, Devon

So here goes, a few things I think any newly engaged couple should know about modern wedding film makers.

myths about Wedding Films Busted!

1. All wedding videos are the same

WRONG. There are many different styles around so start doing your homework and find a few you like the look of and give the videographer a stalk on social media. Follow their Facebook account and watch their Instagram stories so that you can get to know them in advance and figure out if they’re the kind of person you’d like hanging out with all day at your wedding.

I think finding the right wedding film maker for you is like finding the right dress, you’ll just know. You’ll just like everything about them; their video style, their interests. You’re basically looking for someone who can be like a friend on your wedding day. Someone who will fit in with your family and mates and enjoy the day as much as you all do.

If logistically possible, meet them beforehand for a chat. I personally love a good tea and cake date and know of some excellent tea rooms around Devon! Or if it’s too far to travel, video Skype is the next best thing. Find out more about me.

But before you fall in love too much with someones style, make sure that they’re available on your date!

2. I don’t like my photo being taken or the sound of my own voice, I dread seeing myself on film!

Look, an experienced wedding videographer will make you look and sound A-Maze-Zing. We pick the best angles, best light and only use shots of you looking deliriously happy and in love. We will get to know each other in advance so that I feel like a guest with a camera on your day. I will make you laugh so that you feel super relaxed around me and flash those big toothy smiles that you just can’t fake.

I film all day and end up with hours of footage but only the very best shots make the cut into the final films. I want my couples to watch back their best day and see themselves looking their very best. It’s not every day a girl gets her hair, nails, make up professionally done and for most their wedding dress will be the most expensive item of clothing they’ve ever worn! The boys will have freshly barbered hair and a smooth close shave (or oiled beard). So no-one wants to see themselves pulling a funny face while confetti gets stuck in their teeth (believe me, this happens).

I believe it’s my job to make people look their very best and most happiest in their wedding film and I am an expert at pulling this off!

3. It costs a fortune, I’ll never afford a film crew at my wedding

Well there are many levels of wedding film makers to suit all budgets. I’m in the not cheap range but not ridiculous. I believe, and so do my couples, (see my reviews for proof) that you shouldn’t scrimp and save on the memories of your day. You only marry once, so it’s 100% worth investing in hiring an experienced wedding videographer like me to capture your wedding for you.

On average my couples pay £2500 per wedding and I offer interest free payment plans so that you can spread the cost and budget accordingly.

I mostly shoot solo which helps to keep the costs down, but I can hire a highly skilled wedding film maker friend to assist me for those bigger weddings on multiple locations or whole wedding weekends.

Barons Hill Farm, Devon Wedding

Barons Hill Farm, Devon Wedding

4. Videographers have loads of massive cameras everywhere

Yeah, some do, but not me. Some of the more cinematic wedding videographers come with loads of equipment and take over your day, but not me. I usually shoot alone and I use small (but amazingly professional) handheld Sony cameras so I can shoot discretely.

I shoot in a documentary style and most of my couples tell me they barely noticed me on the day and are amazed at all the amazing footage I capture. They tell me they didn’t even realise I was filming certain parts and that’s my goal. People change when they see a camera on them. They stiffen, they become self-conscious, so I try to avoid this. In fact, when I see that people realise that I’m filming them I stop and move on.

EXCEPT when I’m on the dance floor, then I’m all up in peoples faces, getting up and getting down with the rest of your gang.

Devon Barn Weddings

There are some beautiful Devon barn wedding venues all offering something slightly different. A barn wedding can be rustic and charming, small or large, traditional or modern, depending on the venue itself. Here are four of my favourite venues for barn weddings in the heart of Devon.

If you love the idea of a rustic wedding and getting married in a barn, you’re spoilt for choice in Devon. There are lots of wedding venues in Devon where you can have the barn wedding you’ve been dreaming about.

The following five Devon barn wedding venues are some of my favourites, but if you have another Devon barn location in mind, just let me know and I might be able to give you more information about the surrounding area. (I’m Devon born and bred and know lots of amazing places for photos and video clips that you won’t always read about online).

Barn Wedding Venues in Devon

Brickhouse Vineyard Barn wedding

If you’re looking for a traditional barn wedding, Brickhouse Vineyard has recently completely renovated their barn. The wedding ceremony itself can cater up to 60 guests and for the evening do you can invite up to 100 people. Brickhouse Vineyard specialises in more intimate weddings, so for a small wedding for up to 100 guests this is the perfect location.

I’ve been lucky enough to film a few micro weddings at the barn since its renovation (watch Nutan and Gurpals gorgeous highlights wedding film here) and I was invited to make a film for an editorial in Love My Dress to promote it and show people how special the location is. You can read more about the editorial and the other wedding suppliers involved in “Contemporary Decadence”.

I have been lucky enough to film many videos at Brickhouse Vineyard over the last few years and I can confirm that it’s a stunning location. Why not check out some of my wedding films or read some of my reviews to find out more.

Upton Barn & Walled Garden

The first time I made a wedding video at Upton Barn, I fell in love with the place. How could you not when the walled garden is filled with roses, which smell amazing, and with lavender lining the aisle of the outdoor ceremony?

As the day went on, the festoon lighting and the fire pits made this Devon barn wedding venue something very special indeed.

Watch the teaser video I made for the lovely Zoe and Dan at this gorgeous place.

Oak Barn, hittisleigh

Found in the heart of the rolling Devon countryside you have the beautiful Oak Barn. The beautiful Devon wedding venue has lots of lovely areas, an outdoor courtyard for after ceremony reception drinks and canapés and two options for your ceremony, indoors and out and even a church right next door.

I had the pleasure of capturing Charlotte and Camerons gorgeous intimate wedding in 2021 as the covid restrictions were lifted but still in place and limited to only 30 people. But this did not spoil their fun and their intimate wedding was full of love and laughter.

Spanish Barn, Torre Abbey

Wow, what a location and what a lot of history! Spanish Barn at Torre Abbey in Devon is perfect for those wanting a more traditional wedding in terms of the number of people invited. It can host up to 200 people for the ceremony and up to 300 for the reception.

The Spanish Barn is a Grade I listed building and ‘Ancient Scheduled Monument’. It has high beamed ceilings and parquet flooring and the grounds include The Palm House - a massive greenhouse with ponds, palms, cacti and colourful flowers - perfect for some truly beautiful wedding photos. I filmed a wedding video where the reception was held in the Spanish Barn, read more about Naomi and Olivers wedding.

Devon Barn Wedding - Spanish Barn, Torre Abbey

Humber Barn

This is another location where I wasn’t invited to make a wedding film, instead I was invited to their first wedding showcase. Myself and other Devon wedding suppliers were asked to have a stall to show potential clients what we do. I set up a stall and showed some of my previous wedding videos. Read more about the Humber Barn wedding showcase.

But what about the barn as a wedding venue? The barn used to be a lambing shed, but it’s been completely renovated with weddings at the forefront of the plans. Although it’s managed to keep much of its original character its been beautifully updated with a full glass frontage and sliding doors taking you out to the patio and lawn for a private reception after the ceremony. The Humber Barn has been designed so well that just with the fairy lights they provide it’s beautiful, but with some of your own decorations you can make it as unique as you and your other half are.

Contemporary Decadence

Although it was a wedding fashion editorial shoot, the models were a real couple and so I wanted to tap into the emotional connection and natural chemistry between the two of them, just like I would when capturing my couples on their wedding day.

As published in Love My Dress

“In celebration of the new contemporary barn at Brickhouse Vineyard in Devon, this high-end editorial was brought together in essence of an elegant, romantic and decadent celebration of love between soul mates; an almost dream-like ethereal romance captured in a modern, contemporary form.”

The fantastic Zach & Grace were asked by the dress suppliers to work their couture style magic, while I was asked to capture the wedding moments so that real couples can envisage themselves getting married at the stunning new barn; and so that they can feel the feels and imagine them and their favourite person there on their special day.

Wild Industrial Editorial

Wild Industrial Editorial. A Wedding Elopement at an industrial working farm near the rolling coastline of Kingsbridge, Devon

wild industrial wedding

This wild industrial wedding shoot took place at The Grain Store in the South Hams. It’s a brand new alternative wedding venue; a traditional working farm with fields rolling down to the sea.

This wedding styling combines the wild and natural vibe of the Devon countryside with the industrial copper feel of the large workhouse barn. Merging and blending the styles and materials from the industrial and natural world creates a brilliant juxtaposition of texture and colour. The blue accents really pop next to the copper.

This look was styled by Unity Event Design with florals by Thorn Flowers, decor from Glas Events, furniture from Signature Blue and textiles from Penelopes Child. Gorgeous photography by the lovely Laura at Free Form Images and Videography by me. (all images in my blog are my own images taken as stills from the film footage I took on the day)

real couple, real emotion, real wedding films

Although this was a wedding editorial shoot, we used a real couple as our models. It just goes to show that I can capture real and natural emotion from normal people - not just model / actors who are practiced in being in front of the camera.

I use tried and tested techniques to make my couples feel relaxed around me so that I bring out the real them in my wedding films.

A Wedding Grazing Table

Pretty Social Grazing and Devon Cove supplied these gorgeous grazing platters and luxury hampers for the shoot. Working with the concept of ‘eating with your eyes’, they took inspiration from the venue’s rustic and countryside surroundings. And I can vouch for the taste, it was delicious. One of my favourite things about these editorial shoots is that I get to eat the scrummy food too!

Bridal Inspiration - your wedding look

This wedding dress is a stunning design by Christine Trewinnard. The ivory lace with blush undertones compliments the hint of copper in the full skirt. We’re also loving this geometric copper crown from The Lucky Sixpence, tying in the wild industrial wedding theme. With hair by Toni Gogola and makeup by Chloe Bond, model Sarah looks gorgeous! Both bride and groom are rocking handmade wedding rings from Molten Wedding Ring Company.

This wedding was pretty special. Maddy had been planning, crafting, making, stitching, creating, sourcing, buying and styling EVERY SINGLE DETAIL. It was such a cool af wedding that the fantastic Rock and Roll Bride have just blogged it too.

She had custom shoes, a personalised leather jacket, flowers to die for, homemade and decorated cake, picnic hampers, individual wall hangings and banners everywhere and confetti made from real flowers from one of her bridesmaids. Oh and the puppies! There were dogs everywhere including M&D's fur babies.

Cornwall Wedding Film

The venue was expertly dressed with things to see in every corner. A tattoo and glitter bar, a Bake-Off area for homemade puddings, cakes and biscuits. A chest of draws of board and card games and an Instax area for snaps for the wedding scrapbook. Maddy can do weddings. She nailed it! So much so that I was telling her at the end of the night to go into wedding planning/styling.

One thing she couldn't control was the weather. Maddy & Dan had planned on an outdoor ceremony by the lake but just before the wedding party were due to walk down the aisle the heavens opened. We had the most torrential downpour for about 15mins, everyone was huddled under umbrellas or trees waiting for it to pass. But then there was a break in the showers and the bridal party quickly took their positions and just as Maddy and her dad walked down the hill to the lake, the clouds parted and brilliant sunshine broke through.

Santorini Destination Wedding

Who wouldn’t want to get married in stunning Santorini? Lucy and Dans stunning Santorini destination wedding, which I was invited to film for them. How lucky am I to travel to Greece and capture a couple’s beautiful day? Check our some stills from the wedding film I made for them.

Who wouldn’t want to get married in stunning Santorini?

The Greek Island of Santorini is famous for it’s stunning views, white buildings built into the side of the rocks and blue roofs. Lucy & Dan choose this beautiful place as the location for their wedding having never even visited the island. They saw images online and that was that. This was my first time visiting the beautiful island and I truly hope it won’t be the last!

The wedding ceremony was at Santo Wines with it’s beautiful panoramic views out to sea and tasty wines. After the Greek/English ceremony we were treated to a glass of their own white wine and some delicious pistachio and Bueno ice cream.

Santorini Wedding Film

We then all jumped on the bus to Pyrgos restaurant, again with beautiful unspoilt sea views, for the wedding breakfast and celebrations. The guests mingled in the sun while a wedding singer played some well known acoustic songs.

I worked alongside the super talented Jonny and Hannah of Verman Photography and after dinner we went off to explore the streets of Thira for a couples shoot. It also gave Lucy and Dan the opportunity to have a bit of time together to take in the day so far.

Once back at Pyrgos restaurant, the Traditional Greek dancers got the party started and soon had everyone up dancing and smashing plates at the end in true Greek wedding style. This is one of the reasons for having a wedding videographer, to capture the movement and fun of the dance floor.

All in all, it was a lovely wedding and I’m so thankful to have been invited out to join in the celebrations and capture the day for Lucy and Dan.

Ruth & James, an elopement at Brickhouse Vineyard

Elopement at the stunning Brickhouse Vineyard. “I couldn’t recommend Sally from Capture Weddings more. I was actually resistive to getting a video when we were looking at our wedding plan as I have always found them a bit naff, but so glad I was steamrolled on this point (!!!) and how lucky we were to have found Sally to create it for us.”

What better words are there than a pleased as punch bride. Here’s the copy of Ruth’s Google review that she kindly left about the wedding film I created for her and James and their stunning elopement at Brickhouse Vineyard:

I couldn’t recommend Sally from Capture Weddings more. We had a gorgeous elopement wedding at The Brickhouse Vineyard in Devon, and Sally made a beautiful and poignant video that is truly reflective of our day. I was actually resistive to getting a video when we were looking at our wedding plan as I have always found them a bit naff, but so glad I was steamrolled on this point (!!!) and how lucky we were to have found Sally to create it for us. She was so friendly and became a part of our day, but also incredibly professional and unobtrusive. I am totally biased, but our wedding video is so much more fun and lovely than any other one I have seen, and I have seen a lot. Thanks again Sally!

I worked alongside my good friend and wedding photographer Meg of Mimosa Photography (http://www.mimosaphotography.uk/) on this intimate elopement. It rained on Ruth and James’s wedding day but neither of them were fazed by it. Instead, when the weather men forecast rain, Ruth quickly ordered some transparent umbrellas so that they could go dancing in the rain.

Even their pet dog Maggie got involved and was seen sniffing around the vines.

Weddings After Dark

Do you want a fabulous wedding video that’s also a music video? Weddings after dark are my favourite prt of the day. It’s when the wedding really comes alive!

Wedding Videography or Music Video? Hire me and you can have both

Weddings after dark are my favourite thing. It’s when the party gets started.

You’ve picked your favourite band to play, the drinks are flowing at the bar and you and your guests are ready to dance.

Devon Wedding Videographry
Documentary Wedding Videographer

I grew up watching MTV and my teenage years were spent getting excited every time one of my favourite bands had a new music video out.

So it’s no wonder that my favourite part of a wedding is the evening party. My evening wedding film edits are heavily influenced by the music videos I watched way back when and even to this day I still get excited to see my current fave artists newest releases.

Somerset Wedding Videography

You spend a lot of time picking your perfect wedding band so where possible I will capture some live audio of your band and use that in your feature wedding film. So you get to see your favourite people singing and dancing along to your favourite band. I feel this gives you a truly bespoke and personal wedding film.

I capture all the nerves and emotion for the build up before your ceremony and then capture the fun and celebrations of the evening.

Please get in touch to check my availability to capture and document your wedding. I work across Devon and Cornwall as a wedding videographer but of course can travel too (check out this Santorini Destination wedding!). So long as there’s a hotel or airbnb close by, I can be there to film your wedding too.

Tracey grew up on her parent's farm in Bude so having her wedding reception on the family farm was an obvious choice and the dairy theme continued with pots of ice-cream for guest on arrival and flowers hanging around the marquee in glass milk bottles.

I worked alongside the lovely Michael Wells Photography who grabbed me away from chatting to the band about audio stuff to tell me Tracey and Liam were heading for the cow shed! FYI - That's just as it should be, your wedding photographer and wedding videographer working as a team. Thanks Mike!

The delicious reception and evening food was courtesy of H & A Catering with home-made desserts to die for (the lemon tart being my favourite) which are all shown off in my teaser of their wedding below.

Tracey organised the dressing of the marquee herself to fabulous effect. The marquee was like a rainbow of colour with hanging paper lanterns, flowers everywhere and coloured glass bottles and arrangements on each table.

Their wedding cake was a simple white iced cake delicately decorated with pressed edible flowers and herbs which was really effective. Sometimes less is more.
